On July 30, 2025, AHC board member Kostas Kabilafkas attended a Beverly Hills fundraiser at the residence of Alan and Maytal Fattel in support of Congressman Garland Hale “Andy” Barr (R-KY), who is running for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Senator Mitch McConnell. The event drew more than sixty donors from the Jewish community, including AIPAC member Ronen Hacker and former AIPAC President Michael Munchin.
Congressman Barr warmly acknowledged contributions from members of the Hellenic community and reiterated his strong support for Israel, Greece and Cyprus. During the Q&A, Kabilafkas emphasized the role of Greece and Cyprus in recent crises, as well as the strategic cooperation among Israel, Cyprus, and Greece.
The importance of the Eastern Mediterranean energy coalition among Israel, Cyprus, and Greece was underscored. Through projects such as the Great Sea Interconnector and the revived EastMed Pipeline, this partnership offers Europe a vital alternative to reliance on Russian energy. At the same time, Turkey’s obstruction remains a major challenge, as it refuses to recognize the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and maintains a policy of casus belli against these initiatives.
In response, Barr described Turkey as a “bad NATO ally” and praised the EastMed energy initiatives. His remarks were well received, and new channels of cooperation were opened, including direct contact with his Washington office and further coordination with Jewish community leaders.
This successful event strengthened ties with a key Senate candidate and highlighted the value of Greek–Jewish collaboration on issues of shared strategic importance.
