On Sunday, May 16, 2010, the American Hellenic Council showed its support for fellow Greek-American Steve Counelis who is running for Superior Court Judge in Riverside County.

The fundraising event for Steve was hosted by George and Patty Chacopoulos at their lovely home in Newport Beach, CA. It was attended by several members of the AHC as well as other members of the Greek-American community.

Mr. Counelis has been a deputy District Attorney in Riverside County since 2002 although he has been practicing law as a prosecutor in California for over 16 years, ever since he passed the Bar.

In his bid for Judge, he is running against Rachel Marquez, a fellow prosecutor from the same office. Yet, he has gained the endorsement of his boss, Riverside County DA Rod Pacheco, the Riverside County Sheriff and several other law enforcement officials over the other candidate, which eludes to the respect he has earned among his peers.

Steve was introduced by his younger brother who praised him for his fairness, citing that although older and stronger, Steve was always fair to and shared with him while growing up.

Steve, whose specialty as a Deputy DA has been prosecution of cybercrimes and identity theft, spoke of the need for justice in society.

He pledged to continue being a fair man as a judge and spoke correctly citing an Ancient Greek saying that "before one judges, one needs to hear both sides of the story".

Steve is a third-generation Greek-American and if elected, he will be one out of only 6 judges of Greek descent among the approximately 2000 judges in the State of California.

Steve is married to Stacia, they have two small children and they reside in Riverside County.

The non-partisan election is on June 8, 2010 and we encourage everyone who lives in Riverside County to go to the polls and support Steve in his efforts to keep us safe.
