Protest to J-Lo's Agent Now!

MEGA famous pop-star actress Jennifer Lopez is to perform at the gala opening of a 220 million dollar hotel in Turkish Cypriot-occupied Kyrenia on July 24, management of the Cratos Premium told the Cyprus Mail yesterday.

Lopez has not confirmed the claim, but a spokesman for the Cratos, which opens its doors to the public on July 20, said: “I can confirm that this will definitely happen. Lopez will be on stage here on July 24 at the official opening of the hotel.”

The spokesman added that Lopez would arrive at the hotel “a few days” before her concert date with her husband Marc Anthony and twins, and that she was not coming as a guest, but “as a professional”.

Celebrity watchers in Cyprus may be wary of claims from the north of imminent visits by the rich and famous. In 2004, another Kyrenia hotel claimed footballer David Beckham would be coming to stay. The story turned out to be a hoax and the “David Beckham” that did appear was no more than a look alike.

However, this story may in fact be true. The Boz Group that owns Cratos Premium is a well-known, Turkish-owned company that has business interests in infrastructural, industrial and residential construction projects in Turkey and beyond. One of Boz’s directors Murat Bozoglu boasted last March that the Cratos would be Cyprus’ “single biggest hotel project, both sides of the island”. He also said that his company’s investment would change the impression that the north was a risky place to invest.

The Cratos website says the 105,000 square metre hotel complex houses 410 rooms, half of which are luxury suites. It also boasts a ‘port’ where Lopez will perform, and a casino with 35 gaming tables and 300 machines.
